International and Bilingual Tracks

Students need an IELTS level of 5.5 to join Stamford’s undergraduate program. Those with IELTS levels below 5.5 join the Stamford English Program.

This program has 2 tracks – the International track and the bilingual track.

  • International Track – all international students (non-Thai) join our 24-hour per week English program. Local Thai students can also join this program–and we encourage them to do so.
  • Bilingual Track – Thai students can also study English 12 hours per week + 2/3 major courses taught using the Thai language.

The English class you are placed in below (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, or Upper-Intermediate) is based on your English placement test score.

Student Profiles

Hannah

International Program

Hannah is from Vietnam. She took the Stamford English test and was placed in EAP200. She is not Thai, so she will take the international program.

She will study English 24 hours a week for 12 weeks. Her English will improve a lot–especially her speaking.

After that, she will start taking her major classes. She will get good grades because she can understand everything her teachers tell her in English.

She will also be very confident when she gives her classroom presentations in English.

Siriporn

Bilingual Program

Siriporn is from Thailand. She took the Stamford English placement test and got EAP200.

She is Thai, loves to study, works very hard, and always gets good grades.

Because she is a great student, she can take her English courses and her major courses at the same time.

She will study English 12 hours a week, and she will take 2 major courses taught in Thai.

She will have to work very hard, but she will enjoy getting university credits while also studying English.

Arthit

International Program

Arthit is Thai and placed in EAP200. He likes school, but he also has many other hobbies.

It would be difficult for him to study English, take classes in his major, and enjoy his hobbies.

He also thinks English is very important, and he wants to be sure that he learns it very well.

Because of that, he will take the international program. He will study English 24 hours a Week for 1 term–then take his major courses.

He will be successful in his major because he focused on learning English before taking his major classes.

Admissions Criteria

There are two different types of entry requirements for undergraduate programs: academic and English proficiency qualifications.
The required academic qualification is completion of high school / upper secondary school (or equivalent), which is generally obtained after 12 years of education. Accepted qualifications include:

  • IGCSE / GCSE / GCE A-levels Certificate with no less than 3 subjects
  • Test of General Educational Development (GED) with minimum 145 points in all 4 subjects, along with the high school equivalency diploma.
  • IB certificate with minimum 5 subjects with a minimum score of 4.
  • IB Diploma with minimum 24 points
  • Mathayom 6 with academic transcript and graduation certificate.
  • Students who hold a different qualification are recommended to contact the university to check their eligibility.
The required English proficiency is IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL (IBT) 52 or Duolingo or equivalent. Students who have not taken any of these exams are still welcome to apply. Applicants can choose to sit for an English placement test: on campus or online, if necessary. Students who are not yet ready to follow an international academic program will be placed in the Stamford English Program before commencing their actual degree program.

Application Process for Thai students

Before you apply, please study the admission requirements section carefully. Applicants who fail to meet the eligibility criteria will not be accepted under any circumstances. You are also advised to maintain a checklist of the documents that you need to submit along with your application. Missing or partial documentation may hinder the application review process.
Applicants must submit all required documents along with a completed application form. The Office of Admissions will review all submitted documents and check for their authenticity. Once the documents have been verified, applicants will be issued a Conditional Offer Letter and a Fees Structure document.
Upon receiving these documents, applicants will be required to make the necessary payment via either bank wire transfer to the University’s Bank account or online credit card payment system. Payment evidence must be submitted to the Office of Admissions for further process.
For Thai nationals, once payment has been successfully made, the applicants will be issued the Acceptance Letter for their reference.
